Services
The AWHC provides the following services:
There will be a full investigation of a couple with reproductive difficulties whether real or suspected. This will includes a full history and examination of the man and the woman with the appropriate testing. Recommendations will be made about the most suitable form of fertility treatments. These may include:
- Cycle tracking (ultrasound and blood tests)
- IUI (Intra Uterine Insemination)
- IVF (In Vitro Fertilization)
- ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection)
- Blastocyst transfer
- Assisted hatching
- PGS (Pre Implantation Screening)
- Embryo freezing
The man may need sophisticated investigation and this may include:
- Semen analysis
- DNA fragmentation
- Sperm aneuploidy screening
The AWHC provides check-up consultations, which may include cervical smears, vaginal ultrasound scans, advice on contraception, and breast checks, as well as advice on Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). Ultrasound scanning is performed in the AWHC.
The assessment of early pregnancies is done by ultrasound in the AWHC. This is to assess the status of the pregnancy and to confirm/refute the diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy, miscarriage, or to assess bleeding from other sources in early pregnancy.
An out-patient operating theatre next to the AWHC is used for small procedures such as removal/insertion of Intra Uterine Contraceptive Devices (IUCDs) and Myrena coils under local anaesthesia or intra venous sedation. If the procedure requires general anaesthesia, it will be performed in the Portland Hospital, across the road from the AWHC.
Obstetric care is provided with Dr Cowan delivering your baby at the Portland Hospital across the road from the AWHC.
